BEIJING, August 13 (ChinaMil) -- Col. Fang Bing, an military expert and associate professor from the National Defense University (NDU) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), said in a recent interview that China’s new guided missile destroyer “Kunming” (052D) represents the highest level of China’s destroyers in service. He also said that the guided missile destroyer, as the future main warship of the PLA Navy (PLAN), will surely and steadily evolve toward the 10,000-ton class.
It’s known to all that China’s new guided missile destroyer “Kunming” (052D) was commissioned to the PLAN in the first half of 2014. Fang said that after the running-in of the first generation, the second-generation guided missile destroyer 052D represents the highest level of China’s destroyers in service.
The 052D guided missile destroyer has a displacement of 6,000-7,000 tons, and the new phased array radar and vertical launch system have been applied for such a large displacement, Fang added.
